Emerald's Outstanding Reviewer Award

Outstanding Reviewer Award
Originally uploaded by Stefan Smolnik

For the first year Emerald has decided to name and reward the Outstanding Reviewers who contribute to the success of the journals. Each journal's editor has nominated the reviewer they feel has been that title's most Outstanding Reviewer. And yes, I have been chosen as the most Outstanding Reviewer at the Literati Network Awards for Excellence 2007 for my work on Baltic Journal of Management.

Ingo's Stag Night

Equipped with Stuff for Sale
Originally uploaded by Ingo Erdmann

Eike and Charlotte spent the last week in Oerlinghausen. I joint them at the weekend because of Ingo's stag night in Paderborn. Some (former) GCC colleagues, a cousin, his brother and I surprised Ingo on Saturday evening. Ingo had to offer and sell various products and services in Paderborn's city and was quite successful. He could pay for some rounds of (good and not so good) cocktails. We had a lot of fun and it was a pleasure for me to meet them all again.

HICSS-41 2008 notifications of acceptance/rejection

HICSS-41
Originally uploaded by Stefan Smolnik

All decisions have been made! The notifications of acceptance and rejection have been sent out today by the online review system. As every year, there were very tough and close decisions because the quality of the submitted papers was extremely high. We will have two sessions with altogether 6 accepted papers at HICSS-41. Among these accepted papers is also the paper co-authored by Murray, me, and Dave. :-) It is entitled "Towards Measuring Knowledge Management Success" - it's abstract:

"Discussions at previous HICSS conferences have revealed that there is no general agreement on definitions of knowledge management (KM) and knowledge management system (KMS) success. We developed these concepts and presented them earlier this year. Using an expert panel approach followed by two exploratory surveys, we identify KM success measures. The research demonstrates that measures for KM success are required on multiple dimensions. This paper thus also presents a set of dimensions with measures that can be used to determine if KM in an organization is successful."
Do not forget: It is time to make plans for the trip to Hawaii now!

Charlotte and her new hobby: blowing!

Charlotte loves to blow air out of her mouth since a couple of weeks. But in the last days, she has learned to make some "sound" with the blowing. She is soooo cute.

Charlotte is moving through our living room

About one or two weeks ago, Charlotte has started to move also forwards through our rooms. You cannot really call these movements (high or "hands-and-knees") crawling but it is de facto low crawling (on her stomach). After today's baby swimming, I have also the impression that she sometimes tries to get her knees on the ground. And she is getting faster and faster each day. We really need to start making our apartment childproof.

Faster Internet access and new toys

Netgear XE104
A couple of days ago, our new phone and DSL rate Call & Surf Comfort Plus has been activated by T-Home. We now have a DSL 16.000 Internet connection and first measurements have shown that we indeed reach this connection speed. :-) Among other features and add-ons of this new rate, we can now access the Internet at all German T-Mobile/T-Com Hotspots for free. I tried it successfully yesterday at McDonald's in Schwalbach (of course without "enjoying" the "excellent" fast food). The new rate contains furthermore a very low ping (like the fastpath option). A short test with Counter-Strike showed a ping of 9 ms. Hopefully, I will find some spare time later to play a round or two.
To benefit fully from the faster Internet connection, I also ordered two new power line adapters, that have been delivered today (Netgear XE104 85 MBit/s Powerline Ethernet Switch). As they are full plug & play enabled, I just needed to plug they in the power outlets and voilá, we now have a nearly 16.000 kBit/s download in (potentially) every room of our apartment. :-)

Charlotte in action

In addition to all the photos of Charlotte, you can now enjoy our sunshine with moving images. Eike took a first short movie with our digital camera about two weeks ago and I discovered another amazing Google service (http://video.google.com) last weekend. Let's hope that we will be able to manage to shoot and upload more movies in the next days and weeks.

Olaf published his Ph.D. thesis as a book

Multi-Portal-Dilemma
Olaf visited us last weekend and brought along some gifts. Charlotte got a cuddle book and Eike and I got his printed Ph.D. thesis. He has published it with the title "Das Multi-Portal-Dilemma und seine Lösung. Referenzrahmen, Konzepte, Modelle und Realisierung" at the publisher VDM Verlag Dr. Müller and it is listed at Amazon.de among others.

Congratulations on the publication and many thanks for the nice surprise!
