My article "Benefit Potentials, Success Factors, and Performance Indicators of Social Software for the Organisational Knowledge Management“ (in German) co-authored by Prof. Dr. Gerold Riempp has been published in the December edition of the journal "HMD – Praxis der Wirtschaftsinformatik".
Abstract: The terms social software and Web 2.0 increasingly dominate the current media landscape. The approaches, technologies, and services behind these "buzzwords" support the human communication, interaction, and collaboration. Thereby, a basic characteristic is the creation of a spate of giving and taking, i.e., passive readers turn into active authors. In this article typical applications and techniques of social software such as weblogs and wikis, social networks as well as tagging and folksonomies are under examination regarding their benefits for the organisational knowledge management. Furthermore, critical success factors for the introduction and utilization of such applications and techniques in organizations as well as performance indicators for benefit determination are presented. Concluding, the next generation of social software as a combination of social software applications and semantic web technologies is introduced.
